Are You Looking For a Perfect Job or Build Your Own New Business? ...hhhmmm...Let's Think About It
"Whenever you've been touched by love, a heart-print lingers so that you're always reminded of the feeling of being cared for, knowing that, to someone, you mattered."
Nate Berkus began his career in design at a young age. “I was barely in grade school when I helped my mother rearrange the living room furniture for the first time,” jokes Nate. With his allowance dedicated to buying things for his bedroom and his mother’s influence (she’s also a decorator), Nate began a life-long passion for design. “I think I was the only kid on the block who knew about furniture scale by the time I was 8,” he continues. After graduating from Lake Forest College, he took a job with Leslie Hindman Auctioneers. It was from this position, as well as an internship with Dominique Aurientis in Paris, France, that he really developed a love and knowledge for the decorative arts and furniture. From his auction house experience came a deeper understanding of how to shop and what to buy. Self-taught, Nate then went on to form Nate Berkus Associates in 1995 at the age of 24. Moving from the auction house to interiors was a natural evolution for him. The firm grew to include projects for Wolfgang Puck’s Spago, Barney’s New York, W hotels, as well as a prestigious list of private homes and clients. In 2001, Nate was invited to make over a small space for “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” From there, Nate became a featured design expert for the show and continued to garner national press in publications such as ELLE décor, US Weekly, People, O Magazine, Lucky and Domino, to name a few. In the fall of 2005, Nate celebrated the release of his first book, “Home Rules: Transform the Place You Live into a Place You’ll Love,” (Hyperion), which went on to become a New York Times Best Seller. A year later, in 2006, Nate debuted his radio show, The Nate Berkus Show on XM’s, “Oprah & Friends” channel, where he speaks each week to celebrities, callers, and in-studio guests. In 2008, Nate hit prime time as the host of the movement-making hit show, “Oprah’s Big Give.” The fall of ’08 marks another milestone for Nate, with the debut of his new home line on the Home Shopping Network. “I'm so excited to be joining the HSN family, and not just for the obvious reasons. Of course, I can’t wait to show everyone the new things I've created. But, mostly, I want to talk to that first caller. I’m obsessed with the instant feedback and I love hearing about how people are living,” laughs Nate.
